Mbira workshops for the Five Lamps on April 1st

Alongside her storytelling and visual art practices, Fiona Dowling has been playing mbira, a traditional instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe and Mozambique, since 2011.  She has studied with mbira master Chartwell Dutiro, Tembo (Rhoda Dzomba), and Linos Wengara, and is now keen to introduce people to this wonderful instrument here in Dublin.

There will be 6 sessions of 50 minutes each throughout the day, each accommodating up to 6 students.  No previous knowledge of music is necessary.

Spring 2017

Fiona is currently working on new Kamishibai Stories to bring to creches and schools in the new year as well on short animated films based on stories she tells.

She will perform for 3 and 4 year olds at the upcoming Mountain to Sea Festival in Dun Laoghaire on Sunday, March 26th 2017.

Fiona will also give free mbira workshops during the Five Lamps Arts Festival on the 1st of April 2017.
